Journal Entry 9 – Effective Presentations

Watch the following presentation and answer the following questions;

1. What is meant by the 10 – 20 – 30 rule.
The ‘10′ means that you really should have no more than 10 slides on your presentation powerpoint. The ‘20′ means it should only take you 20 minutes to deliver your whole prsentation and ‘30′ means that the text on your slides should be no smaller than 30 points because your audiance needs to be able to see what you have written.
2. Explain why it is important to make sure that you are effective in the presentation of your nominee.
Our whole group has to have a effective presentation because our main purpose is to justify and sell the reasons our nominee should receive the Marist of the year award. Besides that we have to keep our audiance interested in what we are explaining.

Journal Entry 8 – A look at Parables

1. Read the following parables and identify the inspiring quality that Jesus is trying to teach us.
The Parable of the Unmerciful Servant
The Parable of the Persistent Widow
The Parable of the Rich Young Man
The inspiring quality that Jesus is trying to teach us is to be true to our selves and to other people. Jesus is also saying that we all should be able to forgive each other. Even to throw away the bad experiences you have had or done and keep those special moments in life.
2. Provide an example of real life situation or person who has demonstrated any of the qualities you have listed.
A real life situation would be; When you have commiteded an accident you must tell the person you have affected the truth. If you do you will feel better inside because you have taken it of your chest. And hopfully the other person will forgive you and understand it was an accident.

Journal 9

1. Evaluate your contribution to the group and your own work ethic?
I think that I have done well in participating in my group with the sharing of ideas and the completion of work that was assigned to me by my group and my self. I think that my work ethic is good because i get things done on time and of high quality.
2. What did you find your strengths and weaknesses were?
My strengths would probably be making sure everything is done on time within my group because I’m a organized person. My weaknesses would be starting a piece of work (eg. peramble) but after I get into it it gets easier to do and finish.

Journal 8

1. Which part of the exposition are you responsible for?
I am responsible for one of the thesis points/arguments, which is about recognizing that the Aboriginals were here in Australia first.
2. What supplementary material are you using to back up your thesis points (your argument)?
The supplementary material that I am going to make use of is a video on part of rabbit proof fence, also i am going to use various pictures and quotes to really make sure that the reader of our groups preamble is understood.

Journal Entry 7 – The Values of Jesus

1. Define the term ‘Beatitude’.
The beatitudes are eight statements taught by Jesus. They are concerned with virtue and how a believer in Jesus Christ can achieve that virtue.
2. Explain the pourpose of the beatitudes.
The purpose of the beatitudes is for us, as Christans to follow the ways of Jesus. The beatitudes are a set of rules ‘if you will’ that mainly giudes you through the right path of life, the life that Jesus had.
3. Select ONE beatitude and describe how inspiring people of faith put into practice the teachings of Jesus. Use an example to support your answer.
“Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.”
Inspiring people of faith put this beatitude into practise by eirther helping the homless or even going over seas to people, were poverty occurs most. These inspiring people of faith help with the feeding of young children and their parents, for everyone may have a better life. “it’s a start”
Eg. Mother Theresa helped the people who were strugeling for food and shelter (poverty) and gave them the provisions that were esential for a growing child.

1. What do you think the above image is about? Discuss.
The image above is stating which is the right and true type of role model. Either a sporting star (Andrew Johns)left, that inspires young children to play there favourite sport or a inspiring person of faith (Mother Theresa)right, a person who dedicates their own life to help others.
2. List FIVE personal qualities of Andrew Johns.

  • Gifted/Talented
3. List FIVE personal qualities of Mother Theresa.
  • Devoted to helping others
  • Loving to all
  • Follows the ways of Jesus
  • A inspiiring person of faith
  • A strong person mentaly
4. Discuss what you believe the difference is between inspiring people and inspiring people of faith.
The difference between inspiring people and inspiring people of faith is that inspiering people like Andrew Johns inspires in the way of playing sports, which chlidren look up to but inspiring people of faith are the people that really make a difference in the world and follow the way of Jesus.

1. What is an Exposition?
a) An exposition is the critical evaluation of ideas involving argument, persuasion, debate and reactions.
b) Expository writing is a type of writing intended to explain the nature of an idea, thing, or theme.
2. What is a thesis point?
A thesis points are the arguments that you are trying to explain or put forward. These are the certain topics or categories in which you are trying to convince the reader/audience about.
3. How is an exposition  text type structured?
The structure of an exposition;
  1. Introduction- Overview of the topic – statement of the basic position taken with regard to the topic.
  2. Thesis Points/Arguments- Arguments for and against supported by logic, data and/or examples.
  3. Conclusions- Evaluation, re-statement of position, re-defining of the argument(s).
And/or Summary/Comment- Concise commentary or reflection.

Journal 6

1. Are you satisfied with the groups progress so far?
Yes, i am satisfied with our groups progress and effort so far. I think that we all work together really well and that everything is on track so that our work will be completed on time.
2. Who is not pulling their weight?
I think that everyone is contributing with the best  of their abilities, so that the group will achieve the best possible result. Considering that we are all organised and willing to recive that top mark.

Journal 3

1. Outline the frustrations you have felt over the last week.
I feel that we as a group don’t have much time till the end of the project.
2. How will you deal with this?
I as people manager will help the group keep organised and prepaired for the next class.
3. What do you need to achieve this lesson?
We need to finish off our preamble and cover letter.

Journal Entry 5 – Marist Charism

1. Define the word Charism.
Charism is a spiritual gift given for the good of the Church to an individual or group of people.
2. Marcellin Champagnat outlined FIVE marist charisms that are identified within Marist schools.
Describe THREE of these charisms.
  • Simplicity
  • Deep Concern
  • Open-mindedness
  • Trust in God and Mary his Mother
  • Strength of Character -Marcellin Champagnat never gave up, even through tough times he prevailed and kept going till the job is done.
  • Family Spirit -The marist community is an accepting place, where everyone feels welcomed and loved. Marcellin Gave the feeling of warmth in his relationship with everyone.
  • Practical Wisdom - Marcellin Champagnat was a strong man at heart and of man. He adapted to the changes through time, as the school and fellow brothers followed in his footsteps.
3. Provide THREE examples of how you have seen these charisms evident within Parramatta Marist.
Parramatta Marist has gone through many changes in the past few years (teaching, sport, etc). -Practical Wisdom
At Parramatta Marist everyone getts along with each other really well and we accept new people in to the community. -Family Spirit
At time you might of thought there is nothing you can do to improve a result/outcome. But at Parramatta Marist we see what can be improved and work towards that certain goal. We always give our best work (never give up). -Strength of Character
4. List and describe TWO ways you believe we can create a better sense of ‘Marist Family’ within Parramatta Marist.
We can create a better sense of ‘Marist Family’ within Parramatta Marist by the following;
  • When new people arrive (teachers, students & Guests) at our school we could always greet them and make them feel welcomed and honoured.
  • At times we might not get along/disagree with one another and in doing that it might affect your relationship with that person (hurt their feelings). So to fix this we all should try to forgive and forget and not only that next time when in a dispute try to talk things through it and Parramatta Marist Coulg be a better and happier place.
